Westchester Exceptional Children's School is a year round NY State approved special education day facility located in North Salem, NY. We serve individuals with autism, multiple handicaps and children who are medically fragile ages 5-21 throughout Westchester, Putnam, Rockland, Dutchess, Orange, the Mid-Hudson area, the Bronx and Fairfield County, CT.
The local public schools districts refer students to WEC because WEC is recognized as the most appropriate placement to serve the social, emotional and academic needs of each student.
All of the children do so well in WEC's structured nurturing environment that some are able to return to the referring public schools; others are trained at WEC in the pre-vocational and work study programs thus graduating to jobs in the community or workshops, becoming tax payers not liabilities.
Since our founding in 1969, our goal has remained unchanged - "To reach, teach and rehabilitate children once considered "ineducable". Our philosophy that each special needs child is a valuable individual capable of high achievement and worthy of our best efforts is translated into a successful learning experience for every child entrusted to us.
