Hi Everyone! Welcome to Back to Basics.

We have been very busy learning and practicing a variety of skills used on a daily basis. These skills include stating and writing our name, address, phone number, date of birth, counting money, and reading different safety and survival signs.

On cafe days, we read the menu and determine if we have enough money to purchase the items we want, how much money we need to give the cashier and whether or not we will get change. Some of the students have been reading package labels to get information on products such as directions for use, ingredients, nutritional value, and where items were made.

Household skills are another area we are working on. The students have been practicing setting the table, cleaning up after a snack or meal, sweeping, vacuuming, and dusting. I encourage you to give your child some chores to do at home. They take great pride in helping out. It also fosters responsibility and gives them a feeling of accomplishment.

Our homeroom has celebrated some birthdays in September and October.
